In fiscal year 2006, Air Force pharmacies dispensed millions of prescriptions to thousands of eligible beneficiaries – the Pharmacy Practice SIG exists as a resource to the Air Force pharmacy community with a goal of enhancing the structures, and processes considered integral to accomplishing this monumental mission.  We will collect ideas and innovations from all available sources (including the professional literature, civilian benchmarks, subject matter experts, and field-generated items), and then make them available on this site for use by every member of the Air Force pharmacy team.

The Pharmacy Practice SIG’s area of responsibility centers on processes that directly impact the access to, and quality of pharmacy services.  More specifically, items of interest include highlighting/dissemination of best practices, community patient/provider outreach programs, pharmacy staffing/funding models, optimization of available technology, AAAHC/JCAHO/HSI preparedness, and operating instruction/practice manual development.

Pharmacy Practice SIG Action Officers, along with their areas of responsibility, are as follows:

1. Best Practices

2. AAAHC/JCAHO/HSI

3. Staffing/Funding

4. Practice Manual              Leader: Lt Col Ionescu            Eglin AFB

5. Operating Instructions      Leader: Lt Col Dell                 Travis AFB

This undertaking requires the collective energy and creativity of many for maximum benefit.  If you would like our SIG to address an area relating to pharmacy practice that you think needs clarification or improvement please send me an e-mail.  Your interest and participation in the Pharmacy Practice SIG will have a direct impact on the success of Air Force pharmacy in the future – contact us today to get involved!
